Antarctica. Best. Trip. EVAH!
Antarctica, the White Continent. A cruise to Antarctica from the Argentinean port of Ushuaia in December 2007. Words cannot do this any justice. These photos may help.
The fantastic wildlife and scenery. The friends that I made. The fun that we had. All this combined to make this trip that little extra special. This was another planet. I was devastated to leave! Best. Trip. EVAH! 80 images |

Three trips to Argentina so far! These were in 2007 to Antarctica, in 2006, and in 2002.

South America Trip – February & March 2006
A trip from the Atacama Desert of northern Chile to the cold, wet and windswept lands of Patagonia in Chile and Argentina.
Arid, desolate, lunar landscapes and high‑altitude volcanoes and geysers of the Atacama Desert. The busy streets of Santiago and the surrounding pleasant vineyards. The beautiful Pacific coastal towns of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso. The pioneering feel of the small towns of Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales and El Calafate. The awe‑inspiring majestic peaks and glaciers of Torres del Paine. The huge glaciers of Upsala and Spegazzini, the slow break‑up of Perito Moreno glacier, and iceberg‑littered lakes. The charms of the Tierra del Fuego town of Ushuaia and the wilds of the estancias. Glorious seafood, spit-roasted lamb, huge beef steaks. The music, dance and passion of Tango, and the splendour of Buenos Aires. Nice one!
South America Trip – August 2002
Apart from being mosquito food, I've dodged car bombs and mortar attacks in Colombia (President’s inauguration and all that!), been told to back‑off by armed security forces (hey, that was only a camera I was holding!), been to Machu Picchu, overland to Lake Titicaca, travelled onto the Andes backbone (over 4,335 breathless metres above sea level...coca leaves helped though!), cruised and fished on the Amazon River (caught piranha using bits of chicken as bait...excellent!), trekked through the Amazon jungle (it was wet here even though it's the dry season...blame El Nino...I guess it's called a “rain‑forest” for a reason!), went without electricity for a few days (not easy for a gadget freak...withdrawal symptoms!), no hot water (just the stuff from the river!), spent hours llama‑watching in the Andes (I swear those llamas were posing for my camera!), been frozen in the mountains, been fried in the jungle, eaten guinea‑pig (yikes!), been attacked by termites, dodged deadly ants, been eaten more by mosquitoes (I need surgery after this!), seen the magnificent Iguazu (Iguassu) Falls, got mugged by four dudes in Rio de Janeiro (painful...cuts and bruises...I definitely need surgery!), travelled across the continent from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic via bus, train, boat and plane through Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Brazil, plus loads more. A fantastic trip! 76 images |

"Druk Yul, Land of the Thunder Dragon"
A trip in May 2004 to the Himalayan regions of India (Darjeeling), Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.
Bhutan surprised me...it was a really good place to visit. No one hassles you for money, and everyone is really friendly. Must go back one day! 14 images |

A charity-based adventure trip in March 2008 organised by "Sepilok Orangutan Appeal UK" who work with the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in the Sabah district of Malaysian Borneo. The trip had elements of white-water rafting, cycling, trekking, crossing rivers waist-deep, swimming, river cruises, village stays, evening fun (karaoke!) and, of course, seeing wildlife. I was pretty much mosquito and leech food but it was a small sacrifice. The adventure was damn good fun, educational and for a good cause too! 81 images |

I suppose the biggest attraction in Cambodia has got to be the temples at Angkor...an amazing place! I've got hundreds of photos of all the temples in the Angkor complex but that would bore most people very quickly. So I've included only a very small number of them. Actually, I've forgotten the names of most of the temples I visited...my brain as merged them all into one! 21 images |

More pictures to come! My brief trip to Canada was a few days on Vancouver Island and Vancouver (the city) itself. 1 image |

Just a few shots from my trip to the Canary Islands. Specifically, I went to the islands of Tenerife and La Gomerra. 6 images |

I was mightily impressed with the Egyptian relics and its people. Karnak left a big impression on me...it has a wondrous, atmospheric feeling and it must have been something spectacular in its heyday. The people are polite and very friendly. I'd like to go back there one day. 18 images |

Photo taken in October 2003
A couple of trips already to Amsterdam, Holland...great town! More pictures will be added, but as a taster I've included this one from my first trip.
I was also inspired enough to have a stab at computer art to create a painting which I hope you'll have a look at.
Enjoy!

A trip in May 2004 to the Himalayan regions of India (Darjeeling), Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.
Darjeeling is a fantastic way to escape from the intense heat of the Indian plains. As well as tea plantations, the place has passenger-carrying, narrow-gauge steam trains...including the famous "Toy Train". Lots of jeeps (Mahendra-made copies)...apparently people from nearby villages hire jeeps to do their shopping in Darjeeling. And a 4x4 is a real must to traverse the steep mountain roads and the odd railway lines which can all get quite wet and slippery. 17 images |

Laos pleasantly surprised me...the people are some of the friendliest I've met. Life seems far more relaxing here than in other SE Asian countries. It is one of the poorest countries in the region but everyone seem to be well looked after.
Luang Prabang in the northern part of the country is an absolute delight...it exudes a timeless charm with its many temples and monks. I recommend that you read Michael Buckley's description of Luang Prabang, and his travel guide book "Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Handbook" (Moon Publications).
The country is the least commercialised of the SE Asian countries and as such it's a welcome relief to get there after all the hustle and bustle of the other countries. I fear Laos may change and lose it's charm...and as a tourist I know that I may have contributed to it. But I understand the needs of the country to exploit resources. Perhaps more "eco-tourism" is in order... 21 images |

Macau is a nice place to visit if you're ever in the Hong Kong area. The island was, until very recently, under joint administration between the Portuguese and Chinese governments. There are quite a few casinos here which is what attracts most people. It's also a lot cheaper to stay in than Hong Kong. Of course Macau also has motor sports in town - Monaco style! The streets are converted to a race track once a year to host the famous Macau F3 race. 3 images |

I've made three trips to Malaysia. These were in August 2008, in March 2008, and in 1992.
Malaysia Trip – August 2008
This most recent of trips to Malaysia in August 2008 encompassed some adventure caving (intermediate level) and forest walks around the Mulu Caves in Sarawak (Borneo), plus trips around Kuala Lumpur, Cameron Highlands, with jet-skiing swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and parasailing on the islands of Penang and Langkawi.
Borneo Orangutan Adventure – March 2008
A charity-based adventure trip organised by "Sepilok Orangutan Appeal UK" who work with the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in the Sabah district of Malaysian Borneo. The trip had elements of white-water rafting, cycling, trekking, crossing rivers waist-deep, swimming, river cruises, village stays, evening fun (karaoke!) and, of course, seeing wildlife. Jahore Bahru – 1992
A side-trip to Jahore Bahru from Singapore in 1992.
Not many photos here, and these are of low quality. I'll need to find my film negatives to get more photos. 143 images |

"The Last Kasbah"
This trip to Morocco was in December 2003. Starting from Marrakech, we travelled around the mountainous Atlas areas and moved on out towards the fringes of the Sahara near Zagora, and then travelling as far north as Tinerhir. Transport was in a 4x4 Toyota "Land Cruiser" and was just the job for all the off-road treks.
Why "The Last Kasbah"? Morocco is full of them. And especially in the Dades Valley..."The Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs". Our trip out of the Atlas Mountains was to say goodbye to the kasbahs..."The Last Kasbah".

Singapore is a fascinating place...hi-tech and tropical, and very tourist-friendly. I've been there three times...twice in the early/mid 1990s and once in 2001. Most of the photos here are from the 2001 trip. 6 images |

A trip in May 2004 to the Himalayan regions of India (Darjeeling), Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.
Although I've been at higher altitudes before, the first night in Lhasa was a real head-splitter! And then getting hit by food-poisoning that same night didn't help either...the infamous Lhasa Hotel has a lot to answer for! If you are going to stay at the hotel then I recommend that you read the hilarious "The Hotel on the Roof of the World" by Alec Le Sueur. Don't say you weren't warned! 10 images |

I've had quite a few trips to the states and I still haven't seen all of it yet. This is one big country and with so many regional variations in people, climate and scenery. What a place! 30 images |

Some pictures from Wales taken in 1983. At the moment these are from the Cader Idris area. "Cader Idris" literally means "seat of Idris".
